Jo Ann Greenberg, VMD
Internal Medicine
Born in New York City, Dr. Jo Ann Greenberg grew up in the Midwest where she received a bachelor's and master's degree in chemistry from the University of Chicago.
She then decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. She worked at several veterinary hospitals in New Jersey, finally making the move to Brooklyn in mid -1997.
Dr. Greenberg's professional interests include internal medicine (especially endocrinology), geriatrics, and the special needs of feline patients. She also has an interest in treating exotic mammals - ferrets, rabbits, and "pocket pets" such as hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, rats, and mice.
Dr. Greenberg is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Ferret Association.
In her spare time she enjoys cooking and baking, reading (mostly nonfiction), working on her computer, and spending 'quality time' with her lovable 16-pound cat, Wilbur.
Gary G. Swails DVM
Surgery
Dr. Swails is a seasoned practitioner. After graduating from Kansas State University in 1970 he experienced the challenges of large animal practice in bleak Northeast Montana.
After flying to ranches to treat cows in the formidable cold, he moved to Denver where he practiced small animal medicine for several years before coming to New York. "I found large animal practice to be challenging, but Montana was too cold," he said. "Although I sometimes think that I have seen every possible disease in the last 30 years, I am always astounded to see that there is something new." That is because every pet and every problem is different.
"I like internal medicine and diagnosis, but today I lean more toward surgery. I think that Dr. Greenberg and I make a good team. She likes endocrinology and diagnostics while I like the surgical cases. That makes us especially well suited to provide good medicine for our clients. People that come to us get the best of Dr. Greenberg's internal medicine expertise and my expertise in surgery. It's a good combination."
Dr. Swails is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, New York State Veterinary Medical Society, and the New York City Veterinary Medical Association. He has published more than 100 articles on pet care in various magazines and newspapers.
